Nick and Samantha
Before I say anything about this wedding, I should say this might be a longer than normal post. It was at a new to me venue and I will need to tell you a little about it. It’s nice. There may be a few more pictures than normal with this post.
I will also say that we got a great day for this. It was a July day where you expect to sweat from head to toe, but we lucked out with this one. It was a beautiful day, sunshine and clouds. For wedding time (2p.m.) it was more clouds and that kept things cooler. The wedding spot for this venue is under a walnut tree, as you can see in the picture, so there was plenty of shade in case there was bright sunshine.
About Springfield Estates. It is located about 5 miles from the town of Williamsburg. A total of around 17 miles from Huntingdon, depending on which way you go there. Shorter over the mountain I believe. The venue sits back from the main road that passes, maybe 150 to 200 yards back.
When you come down the lane you will see fields on both sides and then a large parking area to the left. When you park there is what looks to be a new sidewalk that will take you into the bottom of the barn or if you prefer you can go off the concrete through the grass and up to the main floor of the barn. The basement of the barn is where the restrooms are. One for each and they have been redone nicely.
Around the barn is some really interesting things. There is a large house that looks like they are restoring and making better. Not that it is bad, it looks to be the original farm house. It has a big wrap around porch and off to the right a summer kitchen.
My wife did some exploring and found a spring house behind the main house where the stream runs through the bottom floor. Needless to say this place is near the top of my wife’s list of venues, just for the historic value of things.
The only things that concern me would be the heat or the cool. We did get a great day but it is a barn and I think if we would have gotten a hot day it would be really hot. Also, if it’s a cool time of the year I am not sure the barn would be very warm. When we were leaving and the lights were on we could see the lights through the boards. It looked very cool but I think the wind and cold would have no trouble getting through this cracks.
The Wedding
The wedding seemed perfect to me. The thing that I remember most about the wedding party walking in would be how they got the ring bearer to walk where he needed was by holding a Hot Wheels box up for him to see. That’s a great idea I will be sure to share. I was the music for this event, not the photographer, so a lot of the pictures you will see during the wedding for this post will be from the one spot I was confined to.
When the bride said what she had to see I did see her start to cry, just a little. I was fortunate to get a picture of that. I was blocked by the groomsmen from getting any tears from family or friend, which I am pretty sure there were a few.
The Reception
After the ceremony it was off to the main floor of the barn. I introduced the wedding party and parents. he couple made their way to the dance floor for the first dance. Looking around I don’t think I ever saw so many different kinds of cookies and sweets. No need to worry about falling asleep, there was enough sugar in those things to make you stay awake all thing. DELICIOUS!
Doan’s Bones was the caterer and after the head table and parents tables made their way through the rest of the tables took their turn. Things moved pretty quick. And we were off with all the other formalities. The father daughter dance where dad got a little emotional. The Mother and son and so on.
I did want to mention the bouquet and garter event. This is something I knew was going to happen and it was a really cool way for someone to propose. When the bride took to the floor to throw he bouquet I counted one, two, three and she was to throw it. Not this time. This time she took it down and walked to a woman and handed it to her. After that one of the groomsmen stepped forward, got down on one knee and proposed. It was a beautiful moment. Unfortunately I didn’t really get a good photo of it because it happened away from me. Remember I was the dj for this event. :-), but I hope you enjoyed the photos.
