Wedding – Matthew & Gillian
may 26, 2018
The end of May is a great time for a wedding. Most of the time it’s semi-cool. The flowers have just made their appearance for the summer season and everyone seems full of a renewed energy. That’s the way it seemed for Matt and Gillian on a family farm, next to a tall wheat field, that seemed to go on for a mile. I was set up inside the door of a beautifully restored barn. For this event I was just the DJ and snapping a few candid shots here and there. Oh, and for the semi-cool part of this story, it was not. It was HOT.
I did not go to the wedding which was held just down the road. For that reason when I saw the couple riding up the road in a horse drawn carriage I was surprised. The wedding was held at a cabin that is shared by family and friends. It was set under the shade of the trees that border a small field. Sheer clothe was hung in a tree along with other decor, where the actual ceremony was to be held. We, my wife and I had gone down the day before to see the wedding location. I also wanted to mention that Brian, the father of the bride told me, while visiting, that just before we got there as they were hanging the decorations, a rattlesnake slithered it’s way the location where the bride and groom would be standing. Hazards of an outdoor wedding I guess.
So, the wedding took place at 4 and by the time folks made it back to the barn area it was almost 5. There was not much parking at the cabin, so a tractor pulling a trailer with hay bales was the method of transportation for most folk. There was a tent set up and for an hour while the photographer got the formal shots the guests gathered under the tent and had refreshments.
After the meal we had the couple do their first dance, My Best Friend by Tim McGraw. The father Bride dance was next. A song I had never heard was played for it called “Daddy”, by Abby Anderson. When it was Moms turn with the groom we had a Beatles song, “In My Life”.
It was a pretty special evening. The Bride, Gillian, is the youngest daughter of a friend I have had for more than 20 years. A hightlight of the night, for me, had to have just been able to catch up with him and his wife. They now live in South Carolina, so there are fewer and fewer times we run in to each other.
I will post more photos to my Facebook Photography page, so pease take a look there for more. facebook.com/rhpic
