Wedding – Chris & Brittany
I got a message on facebook about a year prior to this wedding. Chris, the groom made the contact and a date was set. August 12, 2017. I was booked as the DJ for this wedding, but the photographer John Leytham, was ok with me shooting some on my own. Love working with John.
This wedding was held at a very new venue, Greenland Lodge. It’s located about two miles from Water Street on rt. 453. Actually between Water Street and Tyrone if you are familiar with Huntingdon County. The owners of Greenland Lodge are really nice and easy to work with. They are putting a lot of effort in to making this a special place. I think with the amount of wedding venues that are popping up here and there, every venue has to do their best to compete.
This venue has a lot of parking area. They have in house catering, which was delicious, and a nice spot for a wedding on the property. The day was a really humid but the air conditioners really did a nice job at keeping the place cool.
I talked with the owner afterwards and I believe they said they could fit around 220 in the room.
The wedding was set for 4 pm which did give it time for the sun to get a little lower in the sky. It would have been brutal if it would have been 1 or 2 pm. I was playing music for part of the ceremony. John, photographer sang the song for the bride to walk in. (great job too).
Th wedding party walked up a small hill with a cornfield in back of them which I thought made for a nice photo. I shot so there was grass in front, the wedding party and then the corn rows behind. When they reached their spot to walk down the isle a doorway had been made for them to walk through. There were two barrels with beautiful flowers set on either side of the door. When given the ok I started the songs for them to walk in to and also started shooting pictures.
Because I was going to be responsible for the exit music, I couldn’t stray from my spot too far. I did what i could to get a good angle on the first kiss. I would have rather been in front for that event, but when I’m hired for the music, it comes first.
With the ceremony over it was inside. After a short time the photographer was in with the couple and we did a few of the formal events.
The first was, of course, the first dance. Now I must say something happened during the first dance that happens way too often for photographers. You see a lot of photographer will get to a room and look at the lighting. They will “dial in” their camera settings and be ready to shoot shoot shoot. This is what I did. I had a flash set, i shot a few test shots, before the couple even came in the room. I introduced them again and hit play on the computer for their song and BAM! Someone shut the lights out! All but a few which changed everything I had set in my camera. I’m not complaining, but I believe I would have had several more shots of the first dance, but I had to re-adjust the camera and flash.
The father daughter dance was next on the list. I was warned by the father not to take pictures of him, but since I knew his father since elementary school, I knew there wouldn’t be another chance to get a picture of him in a suit, so I fired away. And you know, he cleans up nice, as they say.
We did the rest of the ceremonial events after a really good meal prepared by the folks at Greenland Lodge and then dancing.
I had a really good time at this wedding. I saw some old friends and hopefully made a few new ones.
