Facebook Told Me To

Recently, Facebook sent me an alert that I hadn’t posted anything in a while, and I should. So, here we go.

This is how things used to work. I will shoot a wedding or have a senior photo session or have a family shoot. I will hurry home and start to edit them. Then go over to facebook and post some. The way I look at it people want to see the photos as soon as possible. So instead of going to my website, the one you are on now (http://rickhamiltonphotography.com), they just go to facebook.

There was a time, not so long ago where I would write a big long blog of how EVERYTHING went down. For weddings, where it was, what time it took place, who I saw there and a lot more. I really wish I could do that, but I like to take, edit and post pictures. At a photography workshop I attended, they made the statement that something like 35% of photography is actually taking the photos, the rest is the business side of things. I am not much of a business person, so….

Another reason for the lack of posting would be the lack of gigs. For the first time in a LONG time I took a more than two month break. No photo jobs, no dj jobs. Just weekends to take my wife and run with no place to be. That is why I don’t have a lot of wedding shots over the summer. I appreciated all the offers I had, but when Covid hit and we HAD to not work, it was nice to have some free time to just do what we wanted.

I also had several events this year where I was hired to do the shoots, but couldn’t post photos due to privacy issues. One of which was the “Heart Walk in Harrisburg”. It was held on City Island in Harrisburg. As much as there is that happens on the island, that was the first time I was there. It was a pretty special event and glad I was able to be a part of it.

I wanted to mention to whomever may stumble across this that I don’t post as many photos to my photography facebook page as I do to my personal facebook page. Reason for this is, when I am hired to DJ a wedding, I always take my camera and I always take photos. Heck I take my camera everywhere! After the wedding, I don’t think it is right for me to post on my facebook photography page. That’s why they show up on my facebook page where I try to give a shout out to the actual event photographer. If you are someone I have worked with at a wedding where I was the DJ and you were the photographer, you know I love to talk about cameras, lighting and photography in general. Maybe too much for some. Sorry about that. I just do get excited about the craft.

I almost forgot, another place to find photos that I have been taking AND posting would be the Big Valley facebook page. My wife and I have taken over that site and business for the last two years. One of the highlights being Harvestfest, which is coming up the first week of October.

So, with that and even though I don’t post as much as Facebook says I should, I still take a lot of photos. I LOVE to take photos and I am not so much of a business person. I do hear it from a lot of friends. Bottom line……..I love to take photos. I will keep doing so, even I don’t post them as frequently as I should according to the facebook gods.

Below a few photos for your enjoyment.
