Amanda & Shannon Wedding

This story about a wedding, I can say started at a powder puff football game last year. I was at the game to snap a few pictures of the teams. I remember I was picking myself up off the ground and saw Shannon walking toward me. It was a cold and windy day. I remember that and him asking me if I would be interested in taking some pictures at a wedding. That’s how this came about.

He actually ask me to be the DJ and the photographer. I’ve been ask that and have done it several times. With the help of my wife, I can manage to pull it off most times. This wedding was to be held at the Germany Valley Brethren church. It’s a very old stone church not too far from Shirleysburg. It’s a church with two separate front doors. Why two? That’s easy, one door for the men to walk in and one door for the women to walk in. That’s how the wedding party walked in to the service. Men in one side and women in the other. Getting to the front doors left for a bit of a challenge this day, as it had snowed last week. There was mud and a lot of it. Somewhere in the area where the bride was dressing they found a roll of the material you use to cover tables and they used it for a walkway through the mud outside.

With the wedding party inside, the services took place with Pastor Tim leading the ceremony. It was a nice service with a little joke in the middle that had the attendees laughing. A first kiss an introduction and the service was finished and a few pictures from the greeting line that was held inside, again because of the mud outside.

I got to take a few family pics and pictures of the bride. The weather prevented us from doing any outside. It was a 4 pm service so by the time the wedding was over and guests greeted the couple it was nearly dark. With that we headed to the Mount Union American Legion Country Club for the reception.

After the introductions the couple went to the dance floor right away for their first dance. Then a meal that was catered by Harshbarger’s Sub & Malt. The couple did things a little different, which I thought was very cool. For dinner they had a pasta bar. It was really good. Instead of a cake they did pies and a lot of them. It was a delicious meal and desserts.

The couple decided not to do the bouquet throw and garter toss. Instead they did the married couple dance to find out which couple attending had been married the longest. I think all but one couple had to have a seat after I said if you’ve been married 45 years or less have a seat. When I ask the one remaining couple how many years they had been married, “62!” the gentleman yelled.

That was one of the highlights of the wedding day. I had fun and hope that the couple enjoy the photos as much as I did taking them. I will as always post more on my Photo Facebook Page in the near future. If you visit the Facebook page, make sure you don’t forget to like it!!
