Bussard Wedding at Union Grove LLC

A rare occasion when I don’t start with “I was not the photographer for this wedding, just the dj”. For this wedding I was both the DJ and the photographer. I can stop with that just so you know I was doing double duty.

Union Grove Weddings LLC

First I have to say that Union Grove Wedding Venus is one of my favorite places for weddings. It’s on top of Broad Top Mountain and has an unbelievable view of the great Trough Creek. We have been there on several occasions and have several more booked there this year. We had a partly sunny morning for this day and it got cloudier as the day went on. For this location, I wasn’t too worried. We had been there when it was foggy and you couldn’t see trough creek but it was still beautiful. Like someone hung a giant white curtain behind the couple that got married. One of the great things about this venue, unlike some others, is this has heat and AC. Yes on hot August days you can get everyone inside and keep them cool.

Double Duty

Because I was doing double duty on this job and didn’t have my assistant (my wife) with me, I got there plenty early. Actually, I believe I was there before 11:30 a.m. for a 3 p.m. wedding. I thought that would give me a lot of time to get the dj system up and running and then get snapping pics.

I took care of getting shots of the venue and some of the decor inside, the cake and various other items. The bride was not there but several of the bridesmaid’s were, so I ask if I could borrow the wedding gown and get some photos of it. I hung it under the porch that is on the backside of the venue where there was an arch that had been made for this wedding, making sure the background was lit correctly then used a flash to light the dress. I like the way it turned out.

The bride arrived and started getting ready, so I got a few shots of her getting ready. Shortly prior to the bride arriving there were several scream coming from their dressing area. A few folks hurried over to see what was wrong. Spider! It was taken care of by one of the boyfriends.

The Wedding

Everything went smoothly through the wedding and I was set to take some group photos along the fence of with the beautiful view in the background. We took just a couple with a grandmother and then, you guessed it, it started to rain. Quick change of locations was needed, so we decided to just do them on the swing on the porch.  We tried our best to hurry through those and as fate would have it the rain stopped long enough to get a couple of the bride and groom outside the building.

During the reception the grooms mother sand a Matthew West song for the first dance which was really cool. We had to do a little work to get the correct version for her to sing, but it was worth it. The meal was made by the couples church family. It was delicious and after the formal dances we played dancing music until semi-late into the night.

I hope the couple had as good of a time as it did. I love trying to capture everything and anything. As always I’ll post more photos on my facebooke photo page later. I hope if you check those out, you’ll like the page.
