Kelly & Andy – Gillbrook Farms
A lot of times I end my little post with the most memorable event of the day. This time I wanted to start with the most memorable thing of the day, the heat and humidity! This was the hottest wedding I have EVER done. It was in the 90’s with the humidity about the same if not higher. WOW!
It was the first time I had the privilege of being the DJ at Gillbrook Farms locate near Warriors Mark PA. I have heard a lot about this facility, all good and all true. The owners are great to work with. I showed up the night before the wedding to set up and they couldn’t have been more accommodating. I had to apologize to one of the owners for talking her ear off Friday night, I was just excited to be there!
Wedding Day
So, about this heat. 90+ degrees and humidity to match. We arrived around 2pm. We gathered the gear we would need for the wedding and headed down to the wedding location. I was looking for shade and found it next to an out building, where once in a while there was even a bit of a breeze that felt like ice being dumped down my back. Not really, but I could dream.
The ceremony began and I began watching for someone to drop or pass out in their chair. It didn’t happen but the ring bearer was not very happy and was quickly taken away. Again, it may have been the heat but it seemed the ceremony took a little longer than normal. The heat was playing with my equipment too. I had a speaker setting next to t telephone pole, trying to use the pole as shade. Everything help together but because we were so far from the ceremony, it didn’t allow me to get many photos. Fortunately they hired a pretty awesome guy John Leytham. He was the official photographer. He is such a good guy, photographer and FUN!
The reception started around 5PM. It was still hot. They had fans everywhere to get the air moving which helped a little. When the couple entered they went straight to the dance floor for their first dance, then father daughter dance and toasts. That was nice to get those events out of the way upfront.
After the meal we had some dance music before doing the dollar dance and if I weren’t sweating enough, I was even more when only three or four people got up to dance. The majority of folks went outside to try to cool of which was understandable. We did the dollar dance which brought a lot of people in. After that more dance music and things took off. It was a good time and folks danced util I announce the 10:30 bus shuttle was leaving. They shouted “who cares about the first shuttle” or something like that, and danced until the last shuttle left.
I’d like to thank the new couple in allowing me to be a part of the day, as hot as it was, it will be one I always remember. More photos on my Facebook page soon. If you visit my facebook page and haven’t already, I hope you will click the like button.
